Skywarn Update

Skywarn Update 2020

Hello Guy and Gals

After much messaging from served agencies, ARES, ARES Colorado, and OEM's, the decisions

for Sky warn 2020 is to allow teams to deploy to track storms and storm cells, i.e.

tornados etc. Further, all directives involving social distancing must also be

observed. The recommendation is to observe with two observers in a vehicle as much

as possible with PPE's then park/observe from hill tops following previous discussed

protocol, proper reporting, following safety rules etc. Net control stations will

use current scripts and reporting procedures previously utilized. I will be the

liaison from our district to the NWS for relaying reports to the served agency.

DMR Nets

As ARES members we should always be prepared to communicate with whatever tools are available and fit the need.  DMR communications are becoming much more widespread, and are used almost exclusively at the state level.  To help us all become familiar and comfortable with this mode, we will be using DMR for the first ARES net of each moth.  We will be using Talk Group 721 - Northern Colorado.  If you need a code plug for your radio, take a look at the RMHam site: https://www.rmham.org/wordpress/sample-codeplugs/

The goal is to make sure our members are familiar with this mode.  If you have a DMR capable radio, get it programmed and try it out.  If you have any questions or problems contact us, and we can help you out.  If you don't have a radio and would like to try, we have a limited number of radios that can be loaned.  Let us know any way that we can help you: This email address is being protected from spambots.
